The first batch of the Light Rail Transit train carriages started being shipped to Macao officially from Japan today (20th). It is expected that the carriages will be delivered to the LRT “Ocean Station” in early November. Subsequently, various works on systematic tests will be commenced to coordinate with the objective to open the Taipa Line to traffic in 2019.

The LRT Taipa Line entered the stage of systems and equipment installations at the beginning of this year. Some railway sections are in the conditions where commissioning works of the trains, systems and equipment can be commenced. Upon coordination, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will arrange for the shipment of LRT train carriages in batches to Macao. In particular, in the first batch, 4 train carriages in total, accompanied with the special reparation vehicles, already started being shipped from Japan officially today (20th). It is expected that the train carriages will arrive in Macao at the end of this month; upon the completion of the customs clearance procedure, it is foreseen that the carriages can be transported to the LRT “Ocean Station”, located in Avenida dos Jogos da asia Oriental, Taipa, for the commencement of various works on testing.

Each LRT train carriage is 11.8 meters in length, 2.8 meters in width, 3.8 meters in height, and 15 tons in weight. Having considered that it is necessary to pass by the main roads of the city centre in the course of transportation, the construction team started simulated transportation the other day to ensure the safety and smoothness in the process of official delivery.
